Frequently asked questions

What size storage unit do I need for a 1-bed flat?

Most 1-bed flats fit in a 50–80 sq ft unit (for example 5 × 10 ft or a 10ft container) if you stack boxes and stand the sofa and mattress on end.

What size storage unit for a 3-bed house?

A typical 3-bed house needs 150–200 sq ft, such as a 20ft container or a 10 × 20 ft unit. Garages and garden furniture can push you to the next size up.

How much fits in a 20ft shipping container?

A 20ft container has about 160 sq ft of floor and roughly 1,100 cu ft of space — usually the contents of a 2–3 bed house.

How is the size worked out?

Each item has an estimated volume. We add them up, assume you can stack to about 8 ft and pack around 70% efficiently (leaving a walkway), then match the floor area to a standard unit size.

Can I put this calculator on my storage facility's website?

Yes. Copy the free embed code on this page and paste it into WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or any website. It works on mobile too.
